Program Overview

The Arborist Partner Program supports Hoyt Arboretum and ensures that Hoyt Arboretum Friends (HAF) continues to provide an environment of learning, research and conservation to the 400,000 visitors it hosts annually.  This support helps HAF educate the public about our collections and programs and supports the projects that keep the arboretum healthy and active in protecting the world’s plants and trees.  The program offers our business partners an opportunity to show the community how they support Hoyt Arboretum both financially and with their volunteerism.

Program Description

HAF offers this unique business partnership with locally owned and operated companies that are eligible for the program.  Partners in the program are required to meet the following criteria to qualify for the program on an annual basis:

  1. volunteered for one Arborists in the Arboretum event within the previous two years
  2. be a certified arborist or arborist-in-training
  3. agree to the HAF Arborist Partner Code of Ethics

To suit the needs of each partner, three levels of participation are offered with commensurate benefits:

Arborist Partner Provides

$500 OR $250 plus donated professional services valued at $250 (at the billable rate of company – attach in-kind invoice of work completed and HAF will verify with our curator)

$1,000 OR $500 plus donated professional services valued at $500 (at the billable rate of company- attach in-kind invoice of work completed and HAF will verify with  our curator)

$2,500 OR $1,000 plus donated professional services valued at $1,500 (at the billable rate of company -attach in-kind invoice of work completed and HAF will verify with our curator)

Arborist Partner Receives

Listed as partner on the HAF website with your logo linked to your company website; listing in donor recognition materials; HAF membership; invitations to VIP events; 20% discount at the Nature Store via a transferable membership card; $10 discount on first-time individual memberships for employees with company ID.

What is Arborists in the Arboretum Day?

Once a year our arborists friends from the Portland Metro area gather up their tools and swing up to Hoyt for our annual Arborists in the Arboretum Day. Each arborist spends their precious Saturday lending their experience and expertise in the careful care of our collections. We are thrilled to host this boisterous group of colleagues and are amazed at the skill and accuracy with which they do their work.

2011 marked the 26th anniversary of Arborists in the Arboretum Day.  Hoyt Arboretum is happy to welcome over 75 arborists representing 22 different companies. While this event is closed to only our arborist volunteers, feel free to stop by and watch them work - from a safe distance- in the collections.  They will be visiting us on Saturday, September 9th from 8am until 1pm.

Current Volunteer Openings

We are currently looking for a volunteer greeter to staff our Visitor's Center and Nature Store.  The volunteer position is for every other Monday mornings from 9am - 12:30pm.

General duties include, greeting and assisting visitors with information, trail wayfinding and running our small retail operation in the Nature Store.
