Volunteer positions currently available
A list of the positions currently available for volunteers at Hoyt Arboretum.
Visitor Center Greeter - Greeters work in the Visitor Center helping visitors, giving directions and information about the Arboretum and selling items in the gift shop. This position requires a commitment of 3 1/2 hours once a week for at least 9 months because of the amount of training and investment of staff time required. Right now we have a fairly full roster but openings do come up from time to time. If this sounds like the right kind of job for you, please contact Stephanie Volkman at svolkman@ci.portland.or.us or 503.823.1649 for further information and an application.
All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Since the Arboretum’s collections of more than 8,000 trees representing over 1,600 taxa are so unique and valuable, garden work must be carefully planned and supervised by Arboretum staff. The staff limitations that make volunteers so essential at the Arboretum also unfortunately restrict the capacity to work with large numbers of volunteers. The Friends group is constantly working to increase funding for the Arboretum so that we can hire sufficient staff to work with every person who would like to volunteer with the trees and plants.
