Punica granatum ‘Nana’ (Dwarf Pomegranate) –
Trumpet-shaped Orange flowers.
Eucomis autumnalis (Pineapple Lily) – Single, thick spire of many star-shaped flowers.
Correa cvs. ‘Dusky Bells’ (Australian Fuchsia) – This plant can bloom with tubular pink flowers for many months.
Wildwood Trail:
Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis (Honey Locust) –
Look for the large, curling seedpods.
Cherry Trail:
Prunus serrula (Birch-Bark Cherry) – Notice the
striking golden-red, shiny bark.
Walnut Trail:
Crataegus x lavallei (Carriere Hawthorn) – Tufts of silvery green lichen compliment the glossy green leaves.
Maple Trail:
Acer tataricum ssp. ginnala (Tatarian Maple) –
Rosy-pink samaras.
Dogwood Trail:
Paulownia tomentosa (Empress Tree) – This tree has
large, heart-shaped leaves complimented with clusters
of big tear- drop fruit capsules.
Cornus alternifolia (Pagoda Dogwood) – The bright red stems of the fruit stand out on this dogwood.
Vietnam Memorial:
Aucuba japonica ‘Variegata’ (Spotted Laurel) –Tall
shrub with green leaves mottled with golden-yellow.
Prunus laurocerasus ‘Otto Luyken’ (Otto Luyken
Laurel Cherry) – Oblong upright leaves with berry color
developing from green to red to purple-black.
Hemlock Trail:
Tsuga canadensis var. pendula (Weeping Eastern
Hemlock) –-Compare this low growing, umbrella-shaped
form with the Western and Canadian hemlocks on this
trail.
Creek Trail:
Phyllostachys heteroclada (Bamboo) – The golden
yellow leaves are attached to stems more than an inch
thick.
Redwood Trail:
Picea breweriana (Brewer’s Weeping Spruce) –
Needled branchlets have a graceful, dripping effect.
