Join us for our final Family Forest Day celebration of the 2024 season to celebrate native trees at Hoyt Arboretum.
Thousands of Portland-area students who have visited Hoyt Arboretum on a Field Trip left the park with a Best Tree Forever (BTF!). And now, you can have one too!
A Hoyt Arboretum BTF is one of 4 incredible native trees:
- Douglas-fir
- Western redcedar
- Bigleaf maple
- Western hemlock
Our Nature Educators, volunteers, and community partners will lead and share activities for all to learn about and connect with these native trees and nature at Hoyt Arboretum.
Special guest Sequoia (Siletz, Tututni, Chetco, Sixes, Tolowa, and Yurok) will be sharing information and leading a special activity all about Indigenous Traditional Ecological Cultural Knowledge and the Western Redcedar.
Illustrator and Author Audrey Sauble will be sharing her book which asks the very poignant question: Can A Tree Be Blue?
Cottonwood School Teacher McLean Cannon will share his class’ Plant Teaching Songs, and perform the folk songs written about the BTFs by his students after a field trip.

This is a free family-friendly program. Drop by 9am – 12pm to celebrate trees with us!

This event will take place at Stevens Pavilion across the street from the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center at 4000 SW Fairview Blvd. There are 2, all-gender, accessible bathrooms available outside the building. Pay-to-park lots are located on Fairview Blvd adjacent to the Visitor Center. See our Plan Your Visit page for more information about parking.
Pro-tip: Skip the parking lot and take public transit!
Hoyt Arboretum is located in Washington Park and is easily accessed from the Washington Park MAX station by Blue or Red MAX lines. Then, you can take the Free Washington Park Shuttle OR walk up to the Visitor Center.
