Portland Opera a la Carte is rolling into Hoyt Arboretum this summer! This mobile performance venue brings live opera directly into community spaces, and this time it’s our 189-acre park in SW Portland.
“Mobile” and “opera” aren’t two words you often hear together, but we promise they’re not mutually exclusive. Inspired by the food carts so iconic to the city, Portland State University students created a cart complete with a fold-out stage and a “menu of operatic specials of the day.” Bring a blanket and picnic items, and prepare to enjoy the musical goodies being served to you by local artists while you’re surrounded by a world-class collection of trees.
With the pandemic in mind, this season’s ensemble of singers, musicians, and technicians are following guidance from Portland Opera’s team of medical advisors and production staff. Hoyt Arboretum will also be following City guidelines to make your outdoor music experience in our spacious park as safe as possible.
Specific location information will be shared with guests prior to the event date. The performance will take place a short walk from the Visitor Center and will be socially distanced. Mask requirements will follow current City of Portland guidelines. No chairs will be provided, but guests may bring their own low-backed chairs or picnic blanket. Seating will be available on a flat paved surface as well as a grassy slope.
Space is limited, and advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets are offered on a sliding scale; select the ticket price that is comfortable for you. Please note all sales are final, and refunds will not be issued.
