Do you have a love of the outdoors and an interest in environmental education? Please join us at this information session to learn more about Hoyt Arboretum’s school field trip and Arboretum Naturalist programs.

Since 1987, Hoyt Arboretum Friends has worked to connect children to our living museum of trees through outdoor education; today, our school field trip program serves approximately 4,000 elementary school students each year. This program is supported by volunteer Arboretum Naturalists, who lead groups of 10 students on two-hour field trips to explore the arboretum’s trails and learn the science of trees through fun, hands-on activities. Volunteers gain valuable experience working with children and teaching environmental education in an informal outdoor setting. Read the complete position description here.

A light lunch will be served during the information session. Short interviews will follow to assess each participant’s experience and interest in becoming a volunteer Arboretum Naturalist.

**To apply for the Arboretum Naturalist program, please go to https://tinyurl.com/HoytFall2019.**

If selected for the Arboretum Naturalist program, volunteers will need to attend three required training sessions prior to the start of the fall field trip season. The fall field trip season runs from September through early November on weekday mornings (Tuesday through Friday). Arboretum Naturalists are encouraged to be available to volunteer for a minimum of four field trips per month during the fall season.

If you have questions or are interested in becoming an Arboretum Naturalist but are unavailable for the informational session, please contact Hoyt’s education coordinator Emily Lytle at emily.lytle@portlandoregon.gov or (503) 823-4477.
