Join Hoyt Arboretum and local bee experts from Bee & Bloom to learn all about how to support gentle, solitary mason bees in your own backyard! Slightly smaller than honeybees, mason bees are incredible pollinators. Each one visits as many as 1000 blooms per day — 20 times as many as a honeybee! This workshop will focus on the lifecycle and nesting strategies of mason bees, with a hands-on component where kids and their parents will construct, decorate, and take home their very own mason bee house!

This workshop will include:

  • A short, kid-friendly presentation on bee diversity and conservation
  • A focused discussion on how mason bees gather food, nest, and raise offspring
  • Tips for creating pollinator habitat in urban and suburban landscapes
  • Construction and decoration of mason bee houses

Class size is limited to 12 participants; one adult and one child is a single registration; additional children will require an additional registration. Recommended for ages 5 and up. $25/member, $30/non-member. Register using the form below, or call (503) 823-1649. There are no refunds for cancellations within two weeks of the class date.
