Hike on natural trails to the Rose Garden, loop around the rose garden, pass by the children’s garden, stop at the original home of Rosie the Elephant and return to the Hoyt Arboretum visitor center. We will be able to enjoy the blooming roses during the Portland Rose Festival without trying to find a parking space! Those who want to spend a longer time smelling or photographing the roses are welcome to stay in the garden and take the shuttle back to the Hoyt Visitor Center.
For active, experienced hikers (55+), be prepared for hills, narrow trails, loose gravel, and a steady moderate group pace.
Distance: 3 miles, Target Pace: 2 miles/hour. Meet at the Visitor Center, and plan for 3 hours of paid parking.
Hikers should come prepared for the weather, including appropriate footwear and rain gear if needed. Registration is encouraged.
