The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, spending time in nature, has many health benefits. We will experience the forest through five senses including sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste (maybe) on a mostly silent hike. The hike will begin with a few gentle breathing and stretching exercises from Qigong. There will be small booklets so hike participants can quickly record their forest observations if they choose.

For active, experienced hikers (55+), be prepared for hills, narrow trails, loose gravel, and a steady moderate group pace. Please note, this is a hike, not a stroll or Hoyt Arboretum walking tour. Please read the Hoyt Arboretum hike program guidelines. Plan for 3 hours of paid parking.

Planned Route: Hoyt visitor center to mostly wildwood trail loop

Distance: 3 miles

Target Pace: 2.5 mph
