Join environmental educator Roland Begin for a hike around Hoyt Arboretum – and through ‘deep time’ – to learn about the unique geology of Portland’s West Hills. We’ll get to walk beside an earthquake fault – and gain an appreciation of ‘timefulness’ and the ever-changing land beneath our feet. In addition, we’ll learn about SLIDO, the state-supported tool to determine landslide potential anywhere in Oregon
Public tours are held rain or shine. Dress for the weather, and wear comfortable shoes for walking on trails. The route is approximately 1 mile and will include some ups and downs along the way. Most of the tour route will travel on well-graded packed dirt or gravel trails.
Masks are not required for outdoor programs in Portland parks but are encouraged indoors. If you are feeling any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay safe and stay home.
Landslides, Faults and Geology is a free guided tour, but registration is required (group size is limited). Meet at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center.
