A fungus and an algae form what we know as lichens in the PNW. Learn more about this symbiotic relationship and how to identify 5 different lichens that are common to the Hoyt Arboretum trails. As you walk and learn, you will be invited to take photographs of your favorite findings. Following the walk and ID portion, there will be time in the covered Stevens Pavilion to learn how to transform your photographs into illustrations. Books and other images will also be provided.  Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

About the instructor: Ruth Williams is a consulting arborist and plant enthusiast with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture from UC Davis. She has been drawing and painting plants for 17 years. She teaches botanical illustration and plant identification classes at Hoyt.
