Hoyt Arboretum is known as a living museum of trees from around the world. Did you know that the Arboretum also has extensive natural areas with many native wildflowers? Learn how to identify some of our most common wildflowers as you explore the trails with our Plant Taxonomist and Herbarium Curator, Dr. Mandy Tu. The morning will include a short welcome, a handout introducing basic plant parts and a guide to common wildflowers you are most likely to see at Hoyt Arboretum and in the Portland area with tips for easy identification, and a guided walk along the trails to apply your learning.
About the instructor: Dr. Mandy Tu is the Plant Taxonomist & Herbarium Curator at the Hoyt Arboretum. In this position, she is responsible for collecting voucher specimens and verifying the identity of the trees within the Arboretum. She has a B.S. in Botany from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of California at Davis.
