Hoyt Arboretum plays an important role in the conservation of tree species that are threatened or endangered in their native habitat. Of the 60,000 tree species in the world, 30% are threatened and over 140 are extinct in the wild. Hoyt Arboretum’s ex situ conservation work currently protects 67 species of priceless genetic lineages of globally endangered species. Join Tedde McMillen for a 60-minute easy-going walk to view and learn about rare coniferous trees, Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.

Public tours are held rain or shine. Dress for the weather, and wear comfortable shoes for walking on trails. The route is approximately 1 mile and will include some ups and downs along the way. Most of the tour route will travel on well-graded packed dirt or gravel trails.

Masks are not required for outdoor programs in Portland parks but are encouraged indoors. If you are feeling any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay safe and stay home.

Threatened and Endangered Trees is a free guided tour, but registration is required (group size is limited). Meet at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center.
