Road Closures

Kingston Drive between the North and South side of the park will be closed for work on Wednesday, April 23 from 7am-3pm and Thursday April 24 from 7am-12pm.

Due to a landslide and unsafe conditions, SW Tichner Dr., between West Burnside and SW Kingston Avenue, is closed to vehicle transportation. Only pedestrians may access SW Tichner Drive between West Burnside and SW Kingston Avenue using the sidewalk on the north side of SW Tichner Drive. People biking may also walk their bikes on the sidewalk.

Tree Work In Progress

The Portland Parks & Recreation Dept. of Urban Forestry has identified 2 large Doug-firs around the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center as having Schweinitzii Root and Butt Rot. Tree work to remove these potential hazard trees is in progress, and we expect arborists from Urban Forestry to be back to finish the job on Monday, April 28. This may result in parking lot closures and impact parking/traffic near the Visitor Center along Fairview Blvd. If you plan on visiting the Arboretum that day, please plan ahead.

General Information

Hoyt Arboretum is a free, public park and is open from 5am to 10pm daily.

The Visitor Center is open 10am to 4pm daily with exceptions. 503.865.8733

Current information for Hoyt Arboretum can be found at Plan Your Visit.

Winter Weather

Due to our elevation, road conditions at Hoyt Arboretum and around Washington Park are often more wintery than other parts of Portland. This can result in road closures and limited access to Hoyt Arboretum during the winter months. Here are a few tools for weather planning:
  • Hoyt Arboretum has a weather station that is accessible online through Weather Underground.
  • Inclement weather updates are posted to this webpage and the Hoyt Arboretum Facebook Page.
  • The Washington Park shuttle is operating from 10am-4pm daily this time of year. You can track the shuttle’s location at ewpshuttle.org. If shuttle service has been cancelled, it is a good indication that you should not drive into the park.
