Hoyt Arboretum is dedicated to environmental education, and students are central to our mission.
We host hands-on, exploratory field trips for all types of youth groups from 1st through 5th grade. We can accommodate groups of between 20 and 60 students with chaperones (with COVID precautions, we are hosting groups of 10 or classes split into two groups of 10) . Please reserve at least three weeks in advance in order for us to prepare for your group.
90-minute guided tours are led by our trained naturalists and are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. Field trips focus on the diverse life cycles and evolutionary adaptations of trees that allow them to survive in environments from all around the world. Our living museum’s worldwide diversity of trees is uniquely poised to offer this lesson in the Portland Metro area.
Field trip costs are $5/student. Proceeds from the tours help fund educational programs and maintaining the Arboretum’s trees and trails. Scholarships are available for Title I schools for transportation and trip fees.
If you are ready to schedule your field trip, or if you have any additional questions, fill out the form below or contact Education Coordinator Emily Lytle.
