Hoyt Arboretum is dedicated to environmental education, and students are central to our mission.
We host hands-on, exploratory field trips for all types of youth groups from 1st through 5th grade. We can accommodate groups of between 20 and 60 students with chaperones. Please reserve at least three weeks in advance in order for us to prepare for your group.
For the FALL 2021 semester, field trips will be independently-led. Hoyt Arboretum will provide materials aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and guidance at the start of the trip. Field trips focus on the diverse life cycles and the evolutionary adaptations of trees that allow them to survive in environments all around the world. Our living museum’s global diversity of trees is uniquely poised to offer this learning opportunity in the Portland Metro area. Naturalists will return to lead field trips at the start of 2022.
Since independently-led field trips are not the norm, prices for field trips will be reduced for the FALL 2021 semester to $3/student. Proceeds from field trips help fund educational programs and maintain the Arboretum’s trees and trails. Scholarships are available for Title I schools for transportation and field trip costs.
